Chiffon & Georgette

Here you can find lightweight and translucent silk fabrics such as chiffon, georgette, organza and the like. Organza differs from the others above mentioned mainly in behavior - while chiffon is soft and loose, organza is stiff and rough to the touch. Chiffon is often confused with georgette, but chiffon is softer and has more luster than georgette.

Silk georgette is a fine and light fabric, woven with twisted threads, which lend it a slightly pebbly structure similar to that of crêpe and crêpe de Chine. Georgette drapes beautifully and is an outstanding choice for summer frocks as well as evening wear, blouses, and accessories like neck scarves, wraps, and veils.

Georgette is slightly rougher to the touch than chiffon, less lustrous, and is a bit sturdier (suffering fewer snags and loose threads), making it more suitable for everyday wear. It has chiffon’s drape with less of the float. It combines well with other crêpes (crêpe de Chine, crêpe georgette, crêpe marocain); a habotai, silk modal blend, or voile would work well as a lining.

Care: We recommend dry cleaning this fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. In our tests this fabric stood up to gentle hand washing. If you risk hand washing, use lukewarm water and a delicate detergent for woolens; do not wring or squeeze dry; block dry on a flat surface. Dry iron on the lowest setting with the steam off; water may leave marks.
